The opposition forum for democratic change, FDC members have this morning launched a new campaign dubbed Blue Friday aimed at pressurizing the state to free their besieged presidential candidate Col. Dr. Kiiza Besigye.

Addressing the press at their Katonga road offices in Naksero this morning, Kahemba Babi, the campaign National coordinator said they were protesting the election coup of Namboole and deliberate violation of Dr. Besigye’s individual rights through an illegal detention at his home.

“We call upon all peace loving Ugandans who recognize Dr. Kiiza Besigye as the president elect of this country to wear blue every Friday in solidarity with their president. This is constitutionally right,” says Babi.

He added; “Dr. Kiggundu with assistance from the Uganda police force deliberately refused to declare Dr. Kiiza Besigye as a winner of the presidential elections exercise but instead chose to announce the loser as the winner!!! That was not only unconstitutional but instead criminal. We can sum up that as an election coup.”

The group now demands an independent audit of the election assisted by eminent persons and delegated political party officials.

They have also called upon the international to with immediate effect impose sanctions on H.E Yoweri Museveni and some members of his government officials, while a travel ban should be considered among others.
