The Uganda police force insists chief justice Bart Katureebe was attacked last week on Monday by a knife wielding man.

The attacker identified as Shaban Oyera is said to have attacked the CJ while in his convoy along Luthuli Avenue in Bugolobi, a city surbub.

Last week, Justice Katureebe denied police reports that he has been attacked by Oyera.

Addressing the press at Police headquarters in Naguru Kampala, Police spokesperson Fred Enanga said 30yr old Oyera stood in the middle of the road and blocked the convoy demanding to talk to Justice Katureebe.

“When the convoy stopped, Oyera moved to the Chief Justice’s vehicle armed with a knife which prompted the lead car commander AIP Asiimwe attached to CT to shoot and injured him on the shoulder plus the chest,” said Enanga.

The police mouthpiece added; “earlier before the incident, Oyera stopped the convoy at the same spot when the escorts were proceeding to pick the chief justice at his residence. He expressed his intentions to talk to the CJ arguing that he has always been denied access to him but the escorts ignore him and continued their way.”

According to Enanga, the scene was visited, items including a spear head, three knives, a blue torch and two spoons were recovered from the injured suspect’s bag, and thereafter he was taken to Mulago in a critical condition.

Oyera would later succumb to the wounds a day after.

Police say inquiries are ongoing at Jinja police station.
